MAREN HESLA • Principal
Maren Hesla is a principal at Mission Control. She is passionate about voter registration by mail; vote by mail; early vote; and analytics-based mail. Maren came to Mission Control after three cycles of running the multimillion-dollar independent expenditure program at EMILY’s List. During her time at EMILY’s List, Maren was a key player in the progressive community’s move toward analytics, voter file modeling and testing-based mail programs. Prior to her tenure at the List, Maren worked as a Senior Associate at The Feldman Group, a Democratic polling firm. Maren lives on Capitol Hill; roots for the Braves; and has a soft spot in her heart for trashy action movies.
PETER JONES • Senior Writer/Senior Account Executive
After working in corporate advertising, Peter joined Mission Control in 2010 as a senior writer. After the 2010 cycle, Peter caught the political bug and worked as a finance director for LA Harris and Associates. But he couldn't stay away for long and returned to Mission Control in 2012 as the co-creative director. Peter has since written compelling speeches, produced creative, memorable ads and delivered sound, strategic advice to campaigns across the country.
DOUG GREVEN • Director, West Coast Operations
JDoug Greven is Director of Mission Control's West Coast operations, overseeing all aspects of our campaign work. Doug has amassed a career's worth of campaign management experience, including the most hotly contested top-tier Congressional races in CA over the last few cycles - winning re-election for Rep. Jerry McNerney in the Republican wave year of 2010, and Rep. Honda's 2014 reelection against a well-funded Democratic challenger in the General Election under California's new top two system. Doug got his start working on Hillary Clinton's Presidential campaign as a Regional Field Director in NH, NJ, TX & PA and his other work includes advising candidates on navigating California's Independent Redistricting Commission in 2011.
Leticia Martinez • Principal
Leticia Martinez. Leticia is a nationally recognized expert in community organizing who brings to Mission Control her vast experience in designing and implementing strategic field, mail, digital and overall campaign plans. During her nearly 20 years of political experience, she has traveled to over 30 states to work on local, state, and federal candidate campaigns, as well as a variety of issue campaigns.
Most recently, in 2016, Leticia served as the general consultant to the successful campaign committee that raised Colorado’s minimum wage. Previous to that, Leticia served as the Western Regional Field Director for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. In 2012, she was the Deputy National Political Director for America Votes, where she coordinated political programs with over 40 national partner organizations. In 2010, she co-created and ran Colorado’s first-ever ballot measure table – a coalition of over45 environmental, women’s health and labor organizations. Leticia built the coalition from the ground up – raising necessary funds to execute a winning campaign plan. The coalition successfully defeated five ballot measures that, combined, threatened Colorado’s economy, women’s health, and the Affordable Care Act.
During the 2008 cycle, Leticia served as the National Field Director for SEIU’s presidential campaign program, where she created and implemented strategic field plans in presidential battleground states. She also managed the 2006 Citizens for Colorado campaign, winning 26 of its 29 targeted state legislative races, and served as the Legislative Director for the SEIU Colorado State Council.
Leticia is a sixth-generation Coloradoan and the granddaughter of both a steelworker and a bricklayer. She lives in Denver with her husband and son. Leticia graduated from Smith College and received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.
CHEYENNE SHAFFER • Senior Associate, Production Manager
After an impressive career as a campaign fundraiser, Cheyenne Shaffer decided to get off the road and join Mission Control in January of 2007. Her strategic, creative and organizational skills help Mission Control crank hundreds of thousands of mail pieces across the country each year. Prior to joining Mission Control, Cheyenne raised millions of dollars for Democratic candidates in Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, and Kansas. In her last stint in fundraising she served as Finance Director for Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland, where she set a Maryland Senate fundraising record raising nearly $8.5 million over the course of his winning campaign. In 2011, Cheyenne served as an international election observer for the National Democratic Institute’s monitoring of Egypt’s parliamentary elections.
KYM NECK • Data and Targeting Director
As Mission Control’s Data and Targeting Director, Kym sifts through and analyzes mountains of data, advises on models, and translates it all into actionable targeting metrics that allow us to run effective, efficient campaigns and ensure we are delivering the right message to the right mail universe.
Kym earned her Ph.D. working on cutting edge social science research on the issues of immigration and border security. In 2012, she trained with the Obama campaign to apply this research to campaign work. After that, she was the Southern Regional Targeting Director of the DCCC and later a Senior Account Executive at Catalist working on voter registration for the Voter Participation Center and Rock the Vote among others.
Kym’s knowledge and experience make free time a premium, but she does what she can to run, knit and collect cookbooks, which she one day promises to actually read.
JONATHAN LEVY- Senior Strategist
Jonathan has served as the Executive Director of General Majority PAC, the principle Democratic Super PAC focused on electing state legislators and managed various political campaigns, specializing in large come-from- behind victories. Jonathan was named 2012 American Association of Political Consultants’ Campaign Manager of the Year for his work managing the Mississippi Personhood Ballot Initiative
BERNADETTE HENNESSY • Director of Financial Operations
A Certified Senior Professional in Human Resources and an experienced Accountant with 30 years of small business management experience, Bernadette joined Mission Control in 2007. She handles all financial, logistical and personnel aspects of the firm's business.
EMMA DILLON • Account Executive
Emma joined the Mission Control team in 2016 after working for several cycles as a campaign fundraiser at the state house, congressional, and presidential levels. In her most recent position as a Finance Director in Virginia, she raised more than any other Democratic challenger campaign in the state. At Mission Control, she helps to design and implement successful voter registration and vote-by-mail programs, and lends her strategic knowledge and organizational skills to campaigns up and down the ballot.
JOANNE SABINO • Administrative Assistant
Joanne is a lifelong Connecticut resident who joined Mission Control in May of 2010. She makes sure everyone’s insane travel schedule actually happens and does whatever else needs to be done to keep the office running smoothly. Joanne raised her two children in Connecticut and is married to her husband Michael. She is the proud Grandmother of two beautiful girls.
GEORGE HAMP • Creative Director
George Hamp has over 20 years in the creative field, with over 14 years experience as a political direct mail creative pro. He has worked on some of the most watched campaigns of the last two decades. His vast experience in working for campaigns at every level of politics – from City Council races to Presidential campaigns – gives him a wealth of experience to draw from and his keen eye for cutting-edge design, quality writing and high production standards is applied to every mail piece he sees. That attention to quality and creativity has been recognized with numerous awards in the political and corporate advertising world.
Prior to joining Mission Control, George played a key role in hundreds of campaigns, independent expenditure efforts, public affairs campaigns and helped lay the foundation for groundbreaking Internet advertising campaigns starting with the DNC’s massive online fundraising and advertising during the 2004 Election Cycle.
A Florida native and life-long sailor, George spends his free time somewhere close to the ocean.
MICHAEL MELLUZZO • Senior Art Director
Snatched from the corporate freelance design world some 15 years ago, Michael’s passion for advertising and design coupled with his love of chasing elephants come election cycle makes him a key asset for our candidates. His tireless ability to execute and design well into the the night hours come election season, makes him one of the primary reasons for the success of our firm since it was first founded.

DAVE LANDRY • Art Director
As part of Mission Control’s art department I love the challenge of thinking analytically about our clients and executing designs that win elections. For more than 15 years I have worked in both print and digital mediums on both coasts for more varied kinds of clients than I will bore you with. Even with all that experience and history it’s still a challenge to stay fresh in an every changing advertising landscape.
So I try to keep it simple and follow the following philosophy:
• Know the rules of good design – use them to strategically get results
• Strength in design lies in understanding each projects challenges and and solving them with practicality and creativity
• See the strengths in your colleagues, learn from them and enjoy being part of a great team

STEPHANIE GASTON • Graphic Designer
A recent graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University, Stephanie has had a passion for anything artistic for as long as she can remember. Taking on as many internships and freelancing jobs as she could while attending college has made her an adaptive artist and always up for a challenge. Away from the computer and artistic endeavors Stephanie is almost always gallivanting through the woods on mountain bike or snowboard.
